MORRISTOWN, NJ (AUGUST 22, 2013) - Sky Blue FC forward Monica Ocampo was voted the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Month by the media for the month of August of the 2013 NWSL season.
Ocampo, 26, scored three times in three games during the month, including the game-winning goal against the Washington Spirit in a 1-0 victory on Aug. 3.
The Mexican international also scored twice in a 3-3 draw against the Chicago Red Stars on Aug. 10 and took the corner kick that led to the game-tying goal in a 1-1 draw with the Spirit on Aug. 18.
Ocampo’s eight goals on the season are a team-best for Sky Blue FC and came in 901 minutes.
"She did exactly what I expected her to do," head coach Jim Gabarra said. "She's a great player. The biggest challenge for her is the physical nature of our game but she's made the adjustments and figured out how to be effective against very physical and very fast defenders she's competing against."
Ocampo is the second Sky Blue FC player to be named NWSL Player of the Month after goalkeeper Brittany Cameron earned the accolade for the month of May.
Sky Blue FC will return to action on Aug. 24 at 8 p.m. ET against the Western New York Flash at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester, N.Y. in the semifinals of the 2013 NWSL Playoffs live on FOX Sports 2.
The NWSL Player of the Month is selected each week of the regular season by a selection of journalists that cover the league on a consistent basis.
