Freels played a crucial role as a center midfielder during the 2014 campaign, scoring five goals and tallying four assists in 23 starts. She ranked eighth in the NWSL in minutes played with 2,021. The Homewood, Alabama, native was a first-round pick by Sky Blue FC in the 2013 NWSL Supplemental Draft. In her first season with the New Jersey club, she led the team in assists with six and also converted one goal. Prior to her NWSL career, Freels was a member of the 2012 WPSL Elite Western New York Flash and won the league championship that season. Freels, an Auburn University alum, was drafted 10th overall by the Atlanta Beat in 2012 before Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) folded.
